I still don’t understand why Harvey Weinstein pulled “Runway” from Bravo in the first place (Did Lifetime really offer him that much? And pledge to bring in “affluencer” type of viewers?), but it happened, and now the viewers are paying the price with this season. Dumb challenges (as a result of the litigation mess), inconsistent judging, contestants gone way too soon (in some cases).
I understand that Michael and Nina had screwy schedules because of the timing of filming and NY Fashion Week, and I understand that Bunim/Murray is now at the production helm, but someone really should have tried to do a better job with the judging panel. Hollywood celebrities do not make good judges. Most of them are too kind to worry about imparting the sorts of bitchy quips that are a PR trademark.
I would have either made sure Michael and/or Nina would be present for all shows OR gotten two consistent fill-ins, like some LA-based, well known designer. I know they couldn’t have pulled in a West coast Vogue editor because of the deal with Marie-Claire, but it would have been a nice alternative. Still, PR is always 10x better than The Hills.
“It always comes from an older woman. They ask me, “Why don’t younger women want to hear these stories? Aren’t you concerned about that?” It’s often phrased in a way that I have such sympathy for the younger woman. Like, we walked 50 miles and we couldn’t wear slacks. And you just don’t care! And partly, given the transformation that the world has made, the idea that right now a generation of young women has come into the world without thinking that they can be constrained by their gender—it’s such a neat idea I’m perfectly happy to celebrate it.”—
I adore you, Gail Collins. I might even buy your book.
I don’t get feminist-y all that often, but the new Ford [Fusion?] commercials that keep running during NFL games are really starting to piss me off. One commercial has a woman talking about how easy it is to run the oil report in the car, and then send it to her phone or email. My father remarked that a lot of cars don’t have dipsticks anymore, but something about the commercial just sticks in my craw, like “Oh, a woman can’t figure out how to check oil by herself!”
The second ad features a woman talking about how drivers of this particular car can change the headlights, and this woman says something like “I make mine pink, because that’s what I’d do…if I designed a car.” Really, Ford?
Of course, the most mind-boggling thing of all is why these female-centric commercials are running during football games. Is it so NFL dunderheads will buy their lady friends the cars? I do not understand the ad placement. There’s a commercial for the same car with a man, but the female friendly ads are being shown with more frequency.

How did you get into 3? I think it was just one of those things where it was “Oh, the Beatles. I should investigate. I hear they’re something.” And my dad had the records in the basement, and I used to look at them and wonder what they sounded like. I had a few friends into the band, so I jumped in.

I don’t remember what drew me to the #1 Record/Radio City in the first place, but I got it, and I started listening, and El Goodo was the first song that really hit me; smacked me with its beauty. It still does.
I’m interested to see what happens here. I still don’t love the idea of the triangle (I feel like it’s much more conventional and less nuanced than the Sid/Tony/Michelle debacle), but I still want to know how it plays out. Maybe Effy will be with Freddie for a bit, but I feel like it’s going to get stale very quickly and she’s going to go sniffing around Cook, and it’s all going to go straight to hell again. Effy and Freddie aren’t end-game. She’s not stable enough, unless he makes her stable suddenly. I still have so many questions about Cook, too!
Cook and Effy remind me of Chuck and Blair, in a drugged and drunk version xD But I mean… They’re alike. They’re just the same, just like CB always were. And they search for each other in moments of weakness, which, for me, it’s one of the “true love signs”. Cook doesn’t care about the mistakes she made, and she could turn to him when everybody else turned its back on her, even Freddie. He took care of her when all she needed was to be taken care of.
Effy will make Cook grow up by loving her, just like Blair did to Chuck; and there will be a moment when she’ll understand how much she changed him and how all she needs is someone who cares for her no matter the circunstances.
I wasn’t pissed when she chose Freddie, I kinda saw it coming… And I think that, in the end, she will still choose Freddie… But just as Cook says, “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey”… For me, it means that no matter who she chooses, her journey with him was so beautiful that we will never forget. And remember, guys, there’s no “epic” without E and C xD
