If Peggy Olson is my spirit animal...
…then I think “Only the Good Die Young” is my spirit song. Except I had neither a white dress nor a party on my confirmation. Second runner up for spirit song, btw, is Radiohead’s “Just.”

Jann Wenner: Forever devoted to the cause of... →
Oooh, Laura, please, again! Tom Waits! And Darlene! If Laura Nyro can’t get in as an artist, at least recognize the songwriting. I would much rather see a medley of her songs than have to see Alice Cooper perform, ‘cause he looks kind of sad as an older man with the eyeliner and the snakes, etc. I bet Neil Diamond’s a shoe-in. The real question, of course, is “how will...

Once you’ve discovered that you can sound like a bar fight — “The Rat” — why...
– This perfectly sums up why very little of their post-B+A material has clicked with me.
Sean T. Collins gets right to the heart of the problem with the Walkmen post-Bows + Arrows. He’s also right about how Hamilton Leithauser’s voice is recorded to sound as though it has been “thrown atop the music...

My next-door neighbor is a chic Russian lady called Galina who plays piano on the weekends. It’s really quite lovely.

Sunday Morning
The TV routine goes like this: Food Network ——> NFL shows —-> NFL games —-> ESPN to fall asleep to, because it’s kind of soothing.
Today I hope to do some laundry and some food shopping and some other various errands, but we’ll see if that actually shakes out. I would *love* to do some cooking and figure out meals for the week, but that’s what...

I'm watching Whip It
And at first I had no idea what decade it was supposed to be, because a lot of the clothes & cars look late ’70s or ’80s, as do some of the sets (and Jimmy Fallon). But then I heard this Jens Lekman song, which is distinctly ’00s, and saw a CD, so… I guess it’s ‘09 or whatever. Plus, there’s another Jens song later on. A+ on that, Barrymore.
glad i was too old to jump on the 'formspring'...
Agreed.

Billy Crudup to star in Broadway's 'Arcadia'... →
YesYesYes!!!!!! The Broadway nerd in me is absolutely psyched. I read “Arcadia” in college, and it’s the saddest thing that I’ve ever read (also one of the most beautiful things that I’ve ever read). I’ve been hoping since ‘06 that it would find its way back to NYC in some incarnation. The shallow girl in me hopes someone attractive will be playing...

One of my favorite things ever, no joke, for the pure joy aspect of it all. Of Monteral & Axe Riverboy singing “Care of Cell 44” {the zombies} and “Starman” {david bowie}.

{vanity fair} Ah, I get you. There was a character named Sookie onGilmore Girls and now there’s a Sookie on True Blood. Are they the same person?
{lauren graham} No, no, no. That’s a different Sookie. Our Sookie is for some reason being called Molly now. She’s on a CBS show (called Mike & Molly),and I don’t know what she’s doing with that guy Mike. He is not from Stars Hollow and I’m just...

morning TV wrap-up with Mom
Mom: I watched the VMAs last night.
Me: Ugh, why? I didn’t even watch.
Mom: Where’d they get Chelsea Handler from? She’s horrible.
****
Mom:… and then I had to switch over to Jon Hamm.
Me: Right.
Mom: What’d you think?
Me: Not as good as last week, but still good.
Mom: I thought it was good… but I have to tell you, I grew up in the ’60s, and...
