I enjoy Will & Beth as a couple very much.

I continue to be amazed at the (and it pains me to use this word in this case) bromance-y nature of Will and Patrick’s stage relationship. I guess Meiburg was always stuck behind a piano or an accordion or one of the other myriad instruments he played.
Will Scheff & Patrick Pestorius of Okkervil River performed for the opening of the newly renovated Neptune Theater in Seattle’s U-district on June 18th, 2011.

Patrick Pestorius, you giant, floppy-haired troll. Related: I think Scott Brackett is definitely out of the band? That blows.
Okkervil River - ‘Plus Ones’ - End of the Road Festival (by robmitch)

Sweet poster and all, but it bums me out that these posters are never in the venues. Or are they, and I’m just missing them? I know that the Bowery Ballroom has show posters in the front windows, but they tend to be the “just the facts” kind, and not the pretty, arty kind.
Also, I caved, and I’m seeing OR at Terminal 5 (hold me!). I’m kind of curious to see what Titus Andronicus do (does?) live (when doing their own material). I’m planning on hiding in the balcony somewhere.

Okkervil River - “Plus Ones” @ Webster Hall. October, 2008. I enjoy the reaction that Will gets from the “Greenpoint bar” line.
I will admit that when I first got into OR, I read a lot of the liner notes very quickly and thought that Sheff was doing the artwork for the albums. I still find it amusing that their names are so similar. Also, NOT what I pictured Schaff to look like. I’ve always pictured a beardy, low-key looking dude, not a tattooed feller with a shaved head. /the more you know/ “If someone called me ‘my huckleberry friend’, I would be like, ‘fuck you.’”

1. Cut your hair, Patrick Pestorius.
2. No more Travis?!
3. I still miss Jon Meiburg.

[Okkervil River/(Shannon Wilsey on the) Starry Stairs]
I love the brass on this. I was fortunate enough to see them do the song *with* brass live, because one of their tourmates was Black Joe Louis & the Honey Bears. It’s also when Will Sheff brings out his lovely electric guitar.
Also, it’s about a porn star: “And if you don’t love me, I’m sorry.”
…and every time I see a post from starrystairs, I think “I’m alive, but a different kind of alive…”
Okkervil River, John Allyn Smith Sails
Well, I hear my father fall
And I hear my mother call
And I hear the others all whisper, “Come home”
I’m sorry to go
I loved you all so
But this is the worst trip I’ve ever been on
